Prof. Dr. Malte Brettel has held the Chair of Economics for Engineers and Natural Scientists since October 2003 and heads the Start-up Centre at RWTH Aachen University. Besides, he is the Vice-Rector of Industry and Business Relations of the university. He is co-founder of a successful e-commerce company and has extensive experience as a management consultant, both for newly founded companies and for established companies such as Porsche AG and Deutsche Post AG. Prof. Brettel studied industrial engineering and business administration at the TU Darmstadt. In 1996 he earned his doctorate at the Otto Beisheim School of Management in Vallendar and habilitated there in 2003.

The Chair of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (WIN) under the direction of Prof. Dr. Brettel is part of the Research Area “Technology, Innovation, Marketing & Entrepreneurship” (TIME). The research area pursues an ambitious teaching and research program with a clear focus on the conception, development and commercialization of technological innovations. This includes not only elements of economic and business research, but also attempts to build bridges to the engineering and natural sciences.
