Prof. Dr. Thomas Lontzek

Could you briefly introduce yourself?

I have studied Economics at the University of Maastricht and the University of California, San Diego, and obtained a doctorate in Economics from the University of Kiel. Prior to joining RWTH Aachen University in 2016 as Professor of Economics, I was a research economist at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, 2007-2010, a post-doctoral research associate at the University of Zurich, 2010-2016 and a visiting scholar at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, 2012. My research focuses on decision-making under uncertainty with applications to economic growth and environmental and resource economics.

What is your role at RWTH Business School and the DDS program?

I am involved in teaching two courses. In the very first module of the program, Mathematics and Statistics, the purpose is to freshen up some basic quantitative skills to set you up for the rest of the DDS program. Nevertheless, given my expertise in economics, the course will entail many applications from economic decision-making. I am also co-teaching a course on modelling climate and energy systems. Moreover, I am available for discussions and collaboration on topics regarding economic behaviour under risks and uncertainty.

What do you think is special about the DDS program?

In the DDS program we teach portfolio of different methods and approaches. Students aquire a systematic set of analytic skills and clearly stand out in the job market.
