We are more than happy to introduce you to eight professors from Aachen and around the world who will contribute to our 4 th Aachen International Summer School in Research Methods and Data Science. You will find below for your convenience a concise profile of each professor. You are invited to visit their websites for further information on their research interests and publication record. As part of each course, they will also share with you insights into academic career trajectories in Germany, Austria, UK, Chile and the US.
Prof. Dr. Almut Balleer
Almut Balleer was born in 1979. She gained her doctoral degree from the University of Bonn, also visiting the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona on a Marie Curie research grant from the European Doctoral Program. In 2009 she became Assistant Professor at the Institute for International Economic Studies (IIES) at Stockholm University, where she has been a research affiliate since 2015. She has also been a research professor with the Ifo Institute in Munich since 2013.In September 2012 she became Professor of Empirical Economic Research in the School of Business and Economics at RWTH Aachen University.
Prof. Dr. Özgür Gürerk
Özgür Gürerk was born in Erzurum (Turkey) in 1975. Since 1991, he has lived in Germany. He studied economics at the University of Bonn. He worked as a student assistant to Prof. Dr. Reinhard Selten at the Bonn Laboratory for Experimental Economics. In 2001, he was appointed as a research assistant and the manager of the Laboratory for Experimental Economics at the University of Erfurt, where he gained his doctoral degree - Dr.rer.pol. - in 2007. In 2011, he completed a research stay at the University of Nottingham, England. In May 2013, he joined RWTH Aachen University as Professor of Experimental Economics.
Prof. Dr. Christian Hopp
Christian Hopp studied business administration at universities in Germany, the Netherlands, and the United States. He holds a doctoral degree (Dr. rer. Pol.) in quantitative economics and finance from the University of Konstanz, a Master in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh, USA, and a Master in financial management from the Rotterdam School of Management, the Netherlands.Prior to joining RWTH Aachen University in August 2013, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Vienna, Austria.
Prof. Dr. Petra Riefler
Petra Riefler is Head of the Institute of Marketing and Innovation at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna. She holds a PhD in Management (with specialization in International Marketing) from the University of Vienna. She was visiting scholar at Cass Business School (City University, London) and Kenan-Flagler Business School (University of North Carolina, USA). Her current research area is international marketing and consumer behavior.
Prof. Dr. Richard Weber
Richard Weber was born in Germany in 1960. He is Associate Professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering of the Universidad de Chile. He holds a Diplom degree in mathematics (1986) and a Master as well as a Ph.D. in operations research (1992) from RWTH Aachen University. His research interests are Data Mining, Dynamic Data Mining, Feature Selection, and Applications of Data Mining in the Financial Sector and in Adversarial Settings.
Dr. Sven Mikolon
Sven Mikolon is Assistant Professor of Marketing at Imperial College Business School. He studied Business Administration and Economics at the Ruhr-University of Bochum (Germany) from where he also obtained his doctoral degree in business administration. In his research, Dr. Mikolon bridges the literature on organizational psychology with that on consumer behaviour and strategic marketing with a strong focus on the customer-frontline worker-interface. Specifically, He examines the influence of cognitive and motivational biases on key marketing performance outcomes, such as customer mind-set outcomes, purchase behaviour and sales performance.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Baris Pascal Güntürkün
Pascal Güntürkün is Assistant Professor at the Department of Marketing at WU Vienna University of Economics and Business. He received his doctoral degree in business administration from the Ruhr-University of Bochum, Germany. He was a doctoral student and post-doctoral research fellow at the Department of Sales & Marketing at the Ruhr-University of Bochum prior to joining WU Vienna.
