Prof. Dr. Volker Stich has been Managing Director of the Research Institute for Rationalization (FIR) at RWTH Aachen University since January 1997. The institute deals with innovative issues of business organization and IT systems, in particular in the areas of logistics, internal and external production management, the development of technical services in the business-to-business sector and information management. In 2010, he was appointed an “Extraordinary Professor”, thus honoring his intensive commitment to both the Research Institute for Rationalization and the RWTH Aachen Campus. Prof. Stich successfully completed his engineering studies at the RWTH Aachen in 1981 and received his doctorate at the same university in 1987. He then moved in the industry to Sekurit St. Gobain to help develop a logistics concept for the production sites of automotive glazing. In 1997 he moved back to the university to work as Managing Director at FIR e.V..
