Prof. Robert Schmitt has been Professor in the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) at RWTH Aachen University since July 2004. Since January 2005, he has been a member of the board of directors of the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT, where he heads the Production Quality and Metrology department. Since 2010 he is Managing Director of the WZL. After studying electrical engineering, Professor Schmitt worked as a research assistant at the WZL. Since 1997 he has worked for a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer in a leading position in quality management and later took over responsibility for production at various production sites. On September 1, 2004, he became Head of the Chair of Production Metrology and Quality Management.
